Extracts from the "The Dog that nearly never was"
Luck played a major role in the development of the Kelpie breed.
It was luck the Jack Gleeson was able to swap a horse for a dog he couldn't buy & when he ran into a distant, generous friend he was given a remarkable dog called "Moss"
Their pups were a mixture of the qualities of both dogs.
The Kelpie did not begin with Kelpie alone, nor did it begin only when the dogs became renowned at sheep dog trials, but rather, the breed began with the combination of 'Kelpie' & 'Moss'
Their pups were the first Kelpies & they were born & bred at 'Bolero' Ardlethan
Australia has exported the "Kelpie" all over the world. In Finland they are used to muster reindeer & is on every continent except Antartica
