Time to leave the Ridge

After the excitement of seeing Elvis last night, it's time to hit the road again, heading back to Moree

The writing on wall says:
"Please don't park in front of the mural"

Sign on the way into town

Welcome to the Ridge

Stanley the Emu, also at the entrance to town
made from old rusty machinery bits & pieces

How Lightning Ridge got its name

Sometime around 1870
a shepherd, his dog & 600 sheep
were struck dead by lightning here
From then on the area was unofficially known as
Lightning Ridge
a name used by government departments
The village was proclaimed in 1908
The name was gazetted on 5th July 1963
